An informal survey of models reported:
Experienced pressure from photographers to shoot beyond their modesty level..
Reported experiencing pushback after communicating
personal boundaries..
Reported touches (sexual or non-sexual) without the model’s consent..
Additional accounts within the survey included unwelcomed sexual comments, and the photographer’s refusal to allow models to bring a third party to shoots.
Our ' Why ':
Sexual harassment occurs across industries and organizations. From Hollywood, to major sports organizations, to religious entities, it is clear: Anywhere there are power differentials, sexual misconduct follows.
It is no surprise that models of all types are at a high risk of experiencing negative interactions and unwelcomed sexual advances at the hands of predators within the industry.
At MAAC, we acknowledge the heightened risk for models to experience sexual misconduct, and aim to cultivate an industry standard of consent and respect, that will not tolerate predatory behavior of any kind.
